Texas Hill Country Home Design with Courtyard

Texas Hill Country home design with courtyard

Project Overview

Designed for modern family living, this contemporary prairie residence combines striking architectural forms with a highly functional floor plan centered around light, openness, and privacy. The 4,047-square-foot custom home features dramatic ceiling heights, expansive glazing, and thoughtfully separated living spaces that balance everyday comfort with entertaining. Distinct rooflines, natural materials, and a welcoming courtyard-style entry create a memorable first impression while maintaining a clean, timeless aesthetic.

The Challenge
  • Design a large family home without sacrificing openness
  • Balance dramatic architecture with efficient construction
  • Maximize natural daylight throughout the home
  • Separate private and public living spaces
  • Create flexible spaces that adapt to changing family needs

Design Response

The home's layout organizes daily living around a dramatic two-story great room filled with natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows. The kitchen, dining area, and outdoor patios create one continuous entertaining space while maintaining clear circulation throughout the home.

The primary suite occupies its own private wing with dual walk-in closets and a spa-inspired bath, while secondary bedrooms and a bonus room upstairs provide comfortable accommodations for family members and guests. A dedicated office near the entry offers a quiet workspace without disrupting the main living areas.

The exterior composition uses layered rooflines, stone accents, vertical wood siding, and expansive glass to create a modern prairie aesthetic that feels both contemporary and welcoming.

Designed Around Light, Space, and Everyday Living

Every room was carefully positioned to maximize natural light while maintaining privacy. The result is a home that feels spacious without being overwhelming, offering comfortable gathering spaces alongside quiet retreats for work, relaxation, and family life.
