Project Overview

This custom Hill Country residence was designed to balance everyday livability with large-scale entertaining, organized around a central courtyard that anchors the home both visually and functionally.

The layout creates clear zones between private and shared spaces, while maintaining strong connections to outdoor living areas. Large expanses of glass, covered patios, and a simplified roof structure work together to bring in natural light and create a cohesive architectural presence.

The Challenge

The project required organizing a large footprint without making the home feel spread out or disconnected.

Key challenges included:

  • Managing scale across ~5,000 SF on a single level
  • Creating privacy between bedroom wings and main living areas
  • Integrating a 4-car garage without dominating the front elevation
  • Maintaining clean structural lines while achieving Hill Country character
  • Maximizing natural light deep into the plan

Design Response

Radius Design developed a courtyard-centered plan that allows the home to open inward, creating privacy while still maximizing light and views.

The main living spaces are positioned to connect directly to outdoor areas, while the bedroom wings are set apart to provide separation and quiet. Structural spans and framing were carefully considered to support large open areas without unnecessary complexity.

The garage is integrated into the overall massing to reduce visual impact while maintaining full functionality for multi-vehicle use.
